On the way home

The trip back to the airport was emotional. Been 8 months since I've seen my bestest buddy, now won't see him again for another 5 months all going well! Managed to get to the airport with just enough time to spare. Didn't get my GST refund as my name got called to go to the gate whilst I was in the queue. Took a few minutes to get there and thought they'd started boarding early. Went to the gate and they wanted to check some extra details, like "did I have checked luggage" and "have you come from somewhere other than Melbourne". Wasn't sure why they wanted to know, but I got my proper boarding cards and a seat at the front of the boarding queue :) Flight took off on time, 13 and a half hours to Abu Dhabi. Oh, the in-flight entertainment is bust! Seems to be all the seats on the right side of the plane. An hour in and its still not working. Just need to pop down to the servers and give it a restart :) Probably runs Windoze! They had to reboot!

Blogger died

I managed to write a massive blog entry whilst on the plane, tried to publish it and now I can't see the blog entry at all! Hopefully when I get connected back up I'll be able to retrieve it as I can't remember half the stuff I wrote!

Spammers still haven't found the plot

Just got this in my inbox, and being a techie, made me chuckle. "Dear Account Holder, There has been an Unauthorized attempt to access your customer bank information from IP address 808.345.343.10299 , Log in below to view your account balance and report any unauthorized withdrawal of funds." I see IANA found a way to work around the 8bit values of each octet, am now convinced I need to login and unlock my account!  Just wish I could email the person who wrote this garbage back and tell them to limit their random number generator a little. WTF Spammers?!

4 days to go!

Hair cut, travelling shoes bought, am all set for Saturday's flight.  Still feel like I'm forgetting something ... nope can't think of it, am sure it'll come to me on the drive to the airport! Got all my post-it's stuck to my monitors to remind me to do things. Get passport out of the Safe, get hair cut (check), order currency (check), buy walking shoes (check) etc etc. Was supposed to be having an all day dev meeting today, but that's been postponed until Thursday, got plenty to be doing before I go!  My dad's coming over with his new Dell laptop tomorrow night, need to get stuff copied off the old one which the LCD died on.  Shame really, 3 and a half years old and the screen dies, I've had my Dell Inspiron 8600 for nearly 7 years, worst that's happened is there is a small crack on the case (our fault). Ah well, lunch over, back to the grindstone :)

Getting my Bits Mixed up

Wow, what a "fun" day today was!  Started off fine working on a project that we've got 3 months to finish, then bang out of the blue, a system which has been working for several years without intervention started to play up.  The code is sooo old it wasn't rebuildable (without going back and setting up some seriously legacy development tools), so the only option was to look at building a quick replacement.  That turned out to be pretty easy, but getting some of the PDF components installed on Windows 7 (bearing in mind that they were legacy too) was pull-the-hair-out-of-your-bum-cheeks stressful!  Working on a 64-bit system and using 32-bit DLLs caught me out this time, the buggers! So what started out as a nice development Monday morning, turned into a hell of code migration. On a lighter note, I've just seen the trailer for Apollo 18 :)  Really?  REALLY?! I am looking forward to The Hangover Part II although I have low expectations on this sequel. How ca

Blogger on Android

Well have just installed Blogger on my HTC Desire running Android. Hopefully this will encourage me to blog a bit more!

1 Week to Oz

Well it's about time I kept up to date with a Blog, been meaning to do it for years.  I start one, then never update it.  Lets see if 2011 can be different! Firstly, congratulations to NASA and the crew of Discovery on a near fault-less launch.  Just watched the Post-launch briefing, good job guys.  Will be watching R2 with interest to see how he ("he" has a gender) gets on over the coming months. Secondly, only 1 week until I take the 24 flight to Australia to see my best buddy, and long time drinking parter! Flying with Etihad for the first time, have high hopes.  Gonna make it to the Future Music Festival 2011 in Melbourne, really looking forward to that.  Heard Zane Lowe say on the radio last night, he's off for 3 weeks, yeah and will hopefully see him in Oz!  (Not personally, I'm not THAT well connected!) Also going to check out the Food and Wine festival and possibly Moomba?  Bring it on! What else ... Going to have to do a complete redesign on
